Tempered/toughenedglass is made from annealed glass via a thermal tempering processin which the glass is heated till its softening point about 650degrees and then quenching quickly to become Tempered glass or heatstrengthened glass 

 

Steps ofManufacturing   

  

StepI
first and foremost the right glass combination is selectedaccording to the clients'' requirement. The choices are limitless,Clear, Tinted, low-e reflective.

StepII                        
The glass is then cut to size and then its edges aretreated. Holes and cutouts are thendrilled onto the glass. Then the glass is washed by deionized waterand loaded onto the transportation bay of the furnace.

StepIII
the glass is then transferred into the heating chamber of thetempering furnace. Here the glass is heated till its softeningpoint

StepIV 
The glass that comes out at the other end of the furnace is eithera fully Tempered glass or heat strengthened glass depending uponthe operating cycle set by the operator in accordance with theclient''s order

 

Characteristics

 A fullyTempered glass is 3 to 5 times stronger than annealed glass ofsimilar thickness. A fully Tempered glass is regarded as a safetyglass and when it breaks it disintegrates into smallblunt pieces/ small oval-shapedpebbles which greatly reduce the chances ofinjuries

1) Strength - Fullylow-e Tempered glass is generally 3 to 5 times stronger thanannealed glass and twice as strong as heat strengthened glass ofsimilar thickness, size and type. For fully Tempered glass theminimum surface compression is 10000 psi and for a heatstrengthened glass is 4000-7000 psi for 6 mm glass.

2) Safety -When broken by impact, fully Tempered glass immediatelydisintegrates into small oval-shaped pebbles,thus greatly reducing the likelihood of cuttingperson
